State of Emergency, Part 1

The sky had turned grey while a dismal seed had taken root. From the emergency room to the cemetery in the blink of an eye. The proximity of one to the other was eerie.

“But I don’t want to go,” the child said, looking gloomily at the crooked stones about 10 feet away.

“If not now, then when?” his mother responded.
